My Defender (Bewitched and Bewildered #8) By Alanea Alder

When a mysterious illness begins to sweep through Noctem Falls affecting the children, Eleanor Kimball is called to the city to see if she can determine what is wrong. As a pediatrician Eleanor loves children and desires many of her own, however, after several dating disasters she has not only sworn off men, but has given up her dream of a family, and the promise of a destined mate.

After discovering Grant in Noctem Falls she is faced with her own insecurities and finds it hard to believe in his love.

Grant Douglas is a man of few words and doesn’t do well surrounded by others. He is scared to death of finding a mate. He believes the harshness of his past, where he struggled to survive, didn’t cultivate a gentle heart. After a series of terrifying nightmares where his mate is at risk, Grant has decided he doesn’t want a mate at all.

When he meets Ellie, he realizes there are some things worth fighting for. Even if it means putting himself out there by becoming the Alpha he was born to be and facing the power he desperately tries to hide.

As Ellie starts to believe in Grant’s love it will take every ounce their combined strength to discover why the shifter children are suddenly falling ill before it’s too late.

And the plot thickens...

Bewitched and Bewildered series is getting more and more interesting. I can't get enough of it.
It was shorter than the normal books in the series, but hell, I'd be happy with a novella I love this series that much.

Ellie is called to Noctem Falls because the children are getting sick, she thinks it's a simple fix.
But upon arriving, she meets her mate and finds out the kids are sicker than they expected and seems to have spread to more kids.

With the noble families wanting to overrule Prince Magnus, the sick children and an unknown force still out to get them, everything is a mess in Noctem falls.

And what does Meryn do???

She calls backup.

It's great seeing some of the original characters back in the story. I've missed them all.

All in all, the story is brilliant and couldn't get any better. I'm enjoying to find out where the story is going.
Alanea Alder has an extraordinary mind. She really does. I can't wait to see what else she comes up with for these characters.

5*

THEORY  ALERT!!!!!!
Only read ahead if you want to talk about the books. May be considered as spoilers.

Okay, first off, who else thinks there's something more to Meryn and the Pack Alpha? Did anyone else question why he kept sniffing her? I think they're connected somehow. Like everyone seems to be when it comes to Meryn somehow.

Who else thinks Prince Magnus should kick out the noble families out? Hands up! I do, I do.

And who else cried during this book because I cried my eyes out. That one scene broke my heart.

More to that, who else thinks the alphas hold the cure for the kids? They were only reacting to them so they must hold magic that holds off what is wrong with them!!!

Okay, I do have more, but I'd be here all day LOL. But one thing I want to leave with, how cool would it be if one of the mates came but wasn't actually the mate, they were someone in disguise as the mate when really, they're evil and the real mate has been kidnapped? muahhhhhh.
SO many possibilities can happen with this series and with the way Alanea Alder is going, they're just gonna keep getting better and better.

My Champion (Bewitched and Bewildered #7) By Alanea Alder

Declan Lionhart has been running interference between the Founding Families and the citizens of Noctem Falls since the day he arrived in the city. His hopes of being a simple unit warrior crumbles in the face of their troubles and it looks like he will always be bound by his family’s political legacy. But with current tensions skyrocketing to unimaginable levels, Declan’s laid back persona and easy smile are needed now more than ever.

Kari Delaney has finally achieved everything she’s ever wanted. The business she created from scratch is booming and she has her dream custom built condo in the heart of the small town where she was raised. But all that changes the day she gets her evacuation notice.

Despite being a vampire, Kari hates Noctem Falls and the politics that permeates every aspect of life within the city. Under protest she and her younger brother leave for the City of the Night.

Declan is smitten with his little general and the strength she exudes. But when it’s just the two of them he begins to break down her carefully constructed walls and shows her that even though he’s easy going, he is still an Alpha, and his lion is demanding her heart.

When the entire city erupts into chaos with matings being dissolved and Founding Families making alliances, Declan realizes it will take every trick he learned at his father’s knee to maneuver through the murky political waters swirling around them. Both he and his mate race against time to keep the people of the city safe, despite homesick children, disastrous dinners, Meryn’s wacky revenge plans and an unexpected pairing.

I love this series and the author... I can't get enough.

I don't think I ever will with this series. It just keeps getting better and better.
I love what they're doing with the groups, how each form a bond that is indescribable.

The history with the groups just keeps getting deeper and deeper and with each pregnancy, each mating, it comes more and more interesting. So much has been put into one series, but it's not hard to keep up, which I like. Everything being said, being described, even with founding families, makes sense to me.

I loved Kari's character, how she took charge and how much she loved her little brother. I loved she didn't take the crap the founding families spouted out. She stuck by her own beliefs and in Noctem Falls, that is rare. So many of the vampires are going behind the princes back, organising their own mating's, and trying to cross the prince by going against him when it comes to the shifters.

I can only see more good things from Alanea Alder. This series is one of my favourites and have already read the series five times over, including this one.

My Guardian (Bewitched and Bewildered #6) By Alanea Alder

The next chapter in the Bewitched and Bewildered series is about to begin.

Meryn and Beth have been summoned by Beth’s uncle and council elder, Magnus Rioux to the vampire’s pillar city of Noctem Falls. Meryn in a city of vampires, what could go wrong? Aiden and Gavriel are about to find out.

Eva Mae Miller has been around for a long time. But never in all of her centuries has she ever had to turn to vampires for sanctuary. But when whole paranormal families begin disappearing in her quiet Texas suburb, Eva knows that it’s time to set her pride aside and join the other refugees heading to Noctem Falls for protection.

Adriel Aristaios doesn’t know what to make of the small human his commander is mated to. Bethy assures him that Meryn is sane, but he’s not so sure. Magnus must be out of his mind bringing a pregnant human and precious Bethy back to the City of the Night, just as things are about to get ugly. To complicate matters he’s pretty sure the sassy, blonde shifter who has just arrived is his mate. How can he possibly do his duty and protect their Prince, when he has not only his commander’s mate and little Bethy to guard, but also the woman who has stolen his heart.

When racial tensions threaten to boil over and sink the city in chaos, Adriel surprisingly finds himself relying on wacky little Meryn and his mate to help keep things from turning violent. But as more information comes to light, it’s clear that someone is out to destroy his city. The question is will they find them in time?

It took me awhile to get into this one. I think it's more to do with the fact that it didn't have everyone in it. Only Bethy, Graviel, Meryn and Adrian in it.
It took me a while to take to the new characters but once I did, I loved them.

The story is concluded after Magnus, The city of the nights prince, summons Bethy and Meryn. It turns out he only wanted their mates, their help. It's not longer just their town that is being violated and people hunted down, but there's and groups in the human world.

When refugees are called to come for safety, Eva turns up with her pack. She ends up meeting Adriel and their relationship blooms from there. They are trying to make it easier for everyone but the noble vampires in the city make it difficult, one turning into a reaper and killing them off one by one.

It turns out the council had been hiding information and keeping some back when it came to the city of the night. Not only did the commanders know nothing about what was happening, but they had no idea just what they were dealing with.

Two favourite characters of mine came into this book, both young, both witches and both exactly like little Meryn. Loved them all together. I can't wait to read more from these characters, but I would love to see the other characters brought into it as I missed them loads during the book.

My Brothers Keeper (Bewitched and Bewildered #5) By Alanea Elder

Two hundred years ago Kendrick Ashwood had a premonition that showed him the gruesome image of his baby brother being killed in the line of duty while serving with the Alpha Unit. When centuries go by and Keelan is still alive and well, he begins to relax. He believes that his prayers sent to the Gods to make him wrong this one time have been answered.

As Kendrick feels his godsdaughter’s magic flare out of control he immediately merges with her in an attempt to rein it in. That is when he learns of the tragedy that has taken his only family away from him.

Using every resource at his disposal he immediately heads for Lycaonia to find out for himself who would be suicidal enough to harm his brother. What he finds shocks him to his core.

Anne Bennett gets a phone call that changes her life. Her new best friend Keelan has been hurt and his commander is asking her to move in to help take care of him. Her heart breaks when she hears from his family that the dreams she has been having of them together were shared by Keelan and that he was meant to be her mate. Upon meeting Kendrick, her entire world is shaken. His more mature appearance and perpetual frown makes him look more like the man from her dreams than Keelan ever did.

As the Alpha Unit races to find the enemies who have stolen Keelan’s soul and covered Lycaonia in black magic, Kendrick begins to uncover dreadful truth behind the necklaces. When turning to Anne feels more natural than it should, Kendrick faces the fact that Anne truly is his mate.

As the paranormal world teeters on the brink of chaos, he finds himself protecting not his brother’s mate, but his own.

This book had my mind going crazy.
I swear, I had to think about things, go back, read it again and then again. I swear, everything is getting more serious, more complicated and every time I read A NEW BOOK... I want MORE!!!

Kendrick is Keelan's brother but also Amelia's godfather as such. He knows whenever she's in trouble, when she's hurt and when he magics out of control. I still don't understand why they box her magic up. It doesn't explain it or if it did, I didn't get why... But they do. Her magic is boxed up, I'm assuming it's because she's too powerful, I'm not sure.

When he feels she's out of control he connects to her, only, his own magic blows out of control while still connected to Amelia. He finds out why the young woman is in so much pain.
His brother.
His brother is no longer with us.
So when he turns up at the estate to find out what happened and get his revenge, his finds his mate is also his brothers mate... or say they all think. But I'll let you discover this mishap all on your own. It was so freaking good to read.
Since Anne already knew a little of the paranormal, she's surprised that there are so much more than witches and fae, and shifters. There's also an evil lurking around out there.
I loved her character. She's so witty, so fun and she took everything in stride. I'm glad she's Kendrick's mate and not Keelan's but I do hope Keelan gets his.

Together they both watch over Keelan, trying to nurse him back to health but with no idea what spell he cast or where he is, they only have so much to go on.
When the two discover what the necklaces are made for and what they're made from they are finally one step closer towards finding out who is causing all the mess. They do find ONE person involved but the scale of what is happening is bigger than they first imagined. It's also been going on longer than any of them knew.

It also turns out that Kendrick also has secrets of his own and answers to questions the other unit members needed but in answering, he's also giving away his true identity.

Find out what happens to Keelan, to Anne, and to Kendrick and the reapers.
You can also laugh your bump off at their little outing to the shop because this time, it's not Bob they get into trouble with but little girls mothers, after scaring the crap out of them LOL

My Savior (Bewitched and Bewildered #4) By Alanea Alder

Amelia has dreamt of her mate since she was a little girl. All her life visions of a golden prince have warmed her heart and promised a fairy-tale future. She longs for the day when they will finally be together.

When the fateful day arrives and she meets Darian for the first time, she is nearly destroyed by his unequivocal rejection. His continued denial of their destined relationship has her doubting her own self worth and the visions she has had all her life.

Darian is teetering on the edge. He refuses to acknowledge Amelia as his mate and shadows continue to spread across his heart. He has grown used to the emptiness in his soul and almost fears the barrage of emotions she elicits. When an unexpected tragedy sends Darian spiraling into a hopeless abyss, will Amelia have the strength to pull him out, or will she succumb to her own darkness?

Gah, loved this book. Again, store scenes, hilarious. LOL

Darian refuses to acknowledge Amelia as his mate. He knows he doesn't have much time left before his soul is taken from him and he becomes the very thing his people hunt.

But Darian didn't expect Amelia to be a clone of Meryn, just kinder hearted. When she doesn't give up on him, he slowly begins to feel like he might be able to fight for his soul, only, day by day is getting too much for him to bare.

I don't want to say too much cause it will ruin the story. This one has a lot more action in it and a lot more secrets being revealed. I never thought that in a million years that Amelia would be related to someone in their house, but it turns out that she is and it's freaking brilliant.
How the author managed to provide us with such detailed novels, making every book link and make sense is beyond me. A lot of thought and effort went into these books. There are times when I feel a little confused when they're explaining things but I manage to catch myself up soon enough.

I loved who Amelia was, her magic and her empathy power. It's what makes her, her. She's truly a great character. I'm also hoping we get to see more from her brothers too because seriously.... I need more.

The story just keeps getting better and better with each book and I can't wait to find out more.

Also, I cried my eyes out at the ending, we lose someone, their soul, or their life??? You'll have to find out. I'm so broken up over it. He was one person I was looking forward to, so I'm hoping he still gets a book. I seriously love this person, what he did was heroic.

My Healer (Bewitched and Bewilder #3) By Alanea Alder

Fun loving wolf-shifter Colton Albright’s usual concern…his next meal, has been replaced by haunted dreams. The nightly visions of the sad, anxious face of his mate have this jovial jokester withdrawing from his fellow Alpha Unit members.
Rheia Bradley is a dedicated professional that lives to help others, but has long forgotten how to help herself. When she arrives in Lycaonia seeking the protection of the warrior units, Colton is ecstatic to discover that she’s his mate. His relief is quickly eclipsed by one small problem, a tiny, solemn four-year-old girl who happens to be his mate’s adopted daughter. Which means… he is now a father!
While Rheia settles into her new job, Colton and all his fellow warriors are about to get a crash course on little girls. The men quickly learn that not one ounce of their centuries-long training has prepared any them for this precocious child.
When Rheia uncovers something about their enemy that puts her name next to her daughter’s on their hit list, Colton is willing to do anything to keep his new family safe. But will it be enough?

How could anyone not love this book?
Colten is my favourite warrior. He's easy loving attitude and jovial ways, makes everything the warrior units are going through so much easier.

Then we have Rheia. She is a human but knows everything there really is to know about the paranormal since she was raised by a group of brothers who took her in as one of their own who are another group of unit warriors working from the outside.
I'm hoping we get more from this group because they all sound incredibly hot!!!
Anyway, she is given a little girl called Penny who was found after her parents were murdered by the reapers. Penny saw the whole thing and hasn't spoken since Rheia was given her to adopt by her brothers, knowing Penny wouldn't survive in the human world since she's paranormal.

When the new threat turns up at Rheia's, she's rushed out with very little belongings and sent to the warrior estate so she can be safe.
Upon arriving she's surprised to find she has a mate.

Oh my God, when Colton lays his eyes on Penny he falls in a deep love, a strong bond just like their mating bond. It was truly heart warming.

Becoming a dad was something he never expected and when he's told to go get some pull ups when Penny has an accident they all head over to Bobs.
Oh my God, this man, this supermarket, which is placed in the human world, is freaking hilarious. Each scene they do in this book has made me laugh harder. First it's the scene with the condoms, then another in the second book, but in this book they make Keelan, another favourite character of mine, to try them on to compare sizes. I couldn't stop the tears of laughter from rolling down my face. I couldn't breathe. The whole scene is funny. There are other times that they turn up at the store which is just as funny LOL

Anyway, it doesn't take Colton long to prove to Rheia, who is also a doctor, his love for her is real. It's not some spell that they are under, but true love.
He's so sweet to her and like all the other women in the book, Rheia keeps him on his toes.

I also loved seeing Penny's journey. She's taken from Rheia and Colton by family members and my heart broke. I cried so hard. I just wanted to pull her into my arms and tell her myself that we'd get her back LOL that's how emotional the scene was.
But when Penny's grandparents see how happy she is with Rheia and Colton they let her stay.
Penny gets to train with the warrior unit and she gives them a run for their money. She manages to outsmart them all.
But the way we watch her personality grow is so inspiring. She truly grows as a character and her new found friendship with Felix, Meryn's spirit is beyond cute.

My Protector (Bewitched and Bewildered #2) By Alanea Alder

Gavriel Ambrosios has been dreaming of his accident prone mate for weeks. Now that he is nearing the apex of his vampiric transition, she has made her way to Lycaonia, just when he is at his most dangerous.

Elizabeth Monroe was planning on staying in Lycaonia while humans forgot about the swan dive she took out of her boss’s office window. Little did she know that this short side trip was about to become permanent. Gavriel is the mate she has always dreamed of. Even as he sweeps her off her feet his need to protect her has him pushing her away. She’s both concerned with and drawn to his darker nature, but is determined to see him through his transition.

In the shadows their enemy has targeted Gavriel when they know he is at his most vulnerable. They creep ever closer to the Alpha estate putting the men on high alert.

But as the days get shorter and the nights get longer Elizabeth begins to wonder, which is the bigger threat? The enemy or her mate?

I'm in love with this freaking series....

I think this is one of my favourite couples. I loved Gavriel. He's one of the eldest vampires alive that even he doesn't remember his own name. He's in transition when Beth turns up in Lycaonia.

From the dreams he has of his mate, Gavriel is worried sick about his accident prone mate and he's worried nothing he can do will save her.

With the threat of the reapers, AKA the new evil in town, they are all on high alert and the house.
None of them know who to trust, who to avoid or what the hell is going on. With all that going on Beth still has to worry about her mate. Although she knows he will never harm her, his transition could.... It was so brilliantly written. I couldn't put the book down.

I can't wait to see what the story concludes too. Each book may have a different mate as the main characters but it's the secondary characters and the story line linking each book together that is what makes this book perfection.
I truly enjoyed it.

My Commander (Bewitched and Bewildered #1) By Alanea Alder

When the topic of grandchildren comes up during a weekly sewing circle the matriarchs of the founding families seek out the witch Elder to scry to see if their sons have mates. They are shocked to discover that many of their son’s mates are out in the world and are human!
Fearing that their future daughter in laws will end up dead before being claimed and providing them with grandchildren to spoil, they convince their own mates that something must be done. After gathering all of the warriors together in a fake award ceremony the witch Elder casts a spell to pull the warrior’s mates to them, whether they want it or not.

Aiden McKenzie is adamant that he doesn’t need a mate and that she would only get in the way. He doesn’t have time to coddle a female. He likes his world run with military precision. Little does he realize, Fate is sending him his mate first! He meets his destined mate Meryn Evans and things go downhill from there. She is the embodiment of chaos. In the first twenty-four hours she kicks, screams and knocks her bear shifting mate unconscious.

Eventually they discover that life before finding each other may have been good, but life afterwards is perfect, even if it involves super soaker battles and accidentally discharging hand grenades.

Unfortunately the joy of their mating is overshadowed when Aiden and Meryn find themselves embroiled in a missing persons case assigned to Aiden by the Lycaonian Council. By assisting Aiden, Meryn finds herself the focus of a demented killer.

I think I've got a new obsession with paranormal novels. Lila Rose has really ruined me. I just need more supernatural reads in my life right now.
I came across this by the off chance, never really knowing if I'd like it. Even after reading four-five chapters, I still wasn't sure. Everything felt rushed. But once they explained the pull of the mate, I guess I understood and since Meryn is a massive Supernatural fan she took everything in stride. If I had seen some hunk turn into a wolf I'd probably pee my pants and pass out.

I loved how the story flowed and the history behind it all.

Characters, however, I freaking adored. OMG!! When the boys go to get our feisty Meryn her Tampons.... I nearly wet myself. I've read scenes like this before, where the heroin in the book doesn't know what type to get but these men...? These men were clueless about humans so you can only imagine when they hear that their commanders Mate is internally bleeding and does so once a month, every month. Too funny.
Really cheered me up.

I don't want to go into any further detail since it will ruin the entire story. I know usually reviews giveaway parts of the story, letting you know what type of book it is, but I will just ask you to trust me... It's worth the read. I'm already on the second book and couldn't be happier that I found this series. I'll be looking forward to more of Alanea Alder's work. This is the first novel of hers that I've read and I loved it.
