Breaking Even (Sterling Shore series #5) By C.M.Owens

What happens when one neighbor pisses off the other? They end up in a brutal prank war, of course. But neither of them expects what happens when they can’t break even.

Rye Clanton

I told myself a long time ago that I wouldn’t—couldn’t—fall in love. I’ve seen what happens, the things they don’t tell you in fairytales. But I never saw Brin Waters coming until she had thoroughly invaded my life. Until her, I never laughed, joked, or even knew how to have a good time. Until her, I just existed. If my secrets weren’t so dark… But they are.

Brin Waters

How the hell do you go from hating someone to loving them? I don’t know, but Rye Clanton is good at it. However, he’s a walking contradiction that I can’t figure out, an enigma that has stumped me more times than I can count. But he’s the first person that’s ever made me feel alive—free. How do you give something like that up? Is loving him worth the risk of being destroyed?

Oh My God!!!!!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS BOOK.

I've been following the series, not able to stop myself from picking up the next as you can tell, but this, THIS book is my favourite so far.

Brin lives across the street from Rye, and when he keeps parking in her space, to close to her car for her to get out she lose the plot. The day wasn't a good day for her anyway, but he just happened to be the center of her wrath.

This is how their feud started. She loses her temper when he refuses to move his car so she can get to work. So she gives him a sweet smile and then reverses into the front of his porch like it's not even there. OMG, I've never laughed so much in my life, but after this incident it just keeps getting better. He cuts the legs off her bed, she rigs his shower and the pranks just keep on going.
The two were hilarious. I couldn't stop laughing or grinning throughout the book. I never wanted to put it down.
They are both funny, loving characters, but Rye has a dark side, a secret, a horrid past and it's the one thing keeping him from telling Brin how he really feels which is heartbreaking because he really does love her, and the author shows it us throughout the book. You can see a change in him from the very beginning.

5 amazing, hilarious *
