Breaking Sophie By Cara Layton

Breaking Sophie

When Sophie left for a last minute Vacation with her friend, after leaving her boyfriend of eight years, she didn't plan on falling for an exotic, rich, man called Dom.
Dom convinces Sophie to stay with him but what happens when she finds out what his job consists of ? .....
Ok the description of the story sounds great, exciting, its the reason downloaded it.
But starting the book felt like i was reading a rough copy of it.
The way she just leaves her relationship from eight years easily, for a man she just met. Literally.
They meet across the pool side where he stood at a bar and she is lounging on a sun bed. When the bar tender comes over explaining there drinks have been paid for, from the mysterious man her friend takes full advantage.
So after Ari her best-friend passes out Sophie goes out for something to eat alone.
Dom turns up at the restaurant and they barely even talk to each other. There was obvious a connection but the writer doesn't go in to detail.
Then she leaves with him, just like that. A complete stranger. Then when they get to the destination there is no small talk they just get down to business.
I understand woman having one night stands but not with someone who you just met, and barely said two words too. It was all to surreal.
The following day the bartender returns giving her a time and place to meet the mysterious Dom, and yet again she goes off and meets him. They barely connect and are at it again.
Sophie's vacation ends the following day and Dom asks her to stay.
So when she arrives at the airport greeted by Dom, he pleads ( sort of ) for her to stay. Not really much persuading she does. Her friend Ari doesn't even blink an eyelid. Which is not something a friend would do.

As the book progress's Sophie is pregnant, after been with him for what seems what ? a week ?. This would never happen.
The book never goes into much detail and it is so frustrating because it has the potential of been a brilliant novel.
Also when Sophie finds out he works for a mafia, mob or some kind she tells him to stop. Telling him about her pregnancy. So he does. He goes out and comes back black and blue then they leave.
Again no detail. It is so annoying because you don't get to know the characters, there is no emotion, none of that strong bond connection between the two.
When the mob, mafia or what ever they are come at there doorstep, they are basically warned that if they don't go see the boss they will die.
No story behind it, what so ever.

So few months later Sophie has her baby and they set off. Nothing about them too becoming parents, nothing to what they are thinking or feeling. Zilch.
Then after all that trouble using men with guns to get them to this meeting, its all for him to say he can freely go when he finishes one last job. That job is to walk through a forest and deliver drugs.
The end.
I was so disappointed in this book. After i read it i saw ways it could have improved. All it needed was more detail, more feelings and what they were thinking. He really does have the potential to be a great novel.
I wouldn't recommend this book, it was a disappointment. I gave it a 3* because i still felt the story, no matter how poorly written was good.
